Refrigeration appliance smells unpleasant

The refrigeration appliance smells unpleasant.

The refrigeration appliance is dirty because of food that has leaked.

Small amounts of milk or orange juice can spill out in the refrigerator and then drip into the drain at the back of the appliance. The drain is designed so that defrosted water evaporates in the defrost drip tray. If liquids like milk or orange juice get into the drain, this can result in a bad smell when the appliance is defrosted.

To neutralise the odour, pour an odourless mild cleaning agent into the drain.

Only use food-safe cleaning agents to clean the interior of the refrigeration appliance.

To avoid damaging the surfaces of the refrigeration appliance, do not use the following cleaning agents:

  • Cleaning agents containing soda, ammonia, acid or chloride

  • Cleaning agents containing descaling agents

  • Abrasive cleaning agents such as powder cleaners, scrubbing liquids or pumice stones

  • Cleaning agents containing solvents

  • Stainless steel cleaner

  • Dishwasher cleaners

  • Oven sprays

  • Hard, abrasive sponges and brushes, e.g. pot scourers

  • India rubber sponges

  • Metal scrapers
